It appears to be dust and not smoke, that explains why the sun was deep red this morning, reminded me of the outback sunsets

That haze has come north and is over Auckland today

We've had that haze over the lower NI the last few days too. I've always assumed it to be Aussie smoke coming over on the nor'westerly? Seems quite common in spring and summer.

No haze here today, just a jolly nice and fine sunny day. We must of had the national temperature as my thermometer peaked at 24.6C.

Maybe some wild weather on the way for Tuesday. We are on a short cruize to Sydney. Hope to see some waterspouts or lightning.

Re snow set up tomorrow, there was a similar set up on November 11 2017 that dropped snow to 200m in western Southland. So these set ups can surprise with snow level.

It will be interesting to see what the snow level is in Central Otago/western Southland tomorrow, might be some local variations.

Yes, snowing Te Anau - Queenstown. Looks like the best low level fall this year for Queenstown going by webcam.

Going back to your remarks about a cold October, Tony. Often a lot of the decent summers we have had in the past have been preceded by cold Octobers or Novembers.
