Apart from strong winds overnight but decreasing now and the 7mm around midnight this event has turned out way different to the forecast, snow lines about 800m around hills here as well, only had a few spits of rain all morning. Just being the story of the winter in general

Personally I'm finding it hard to know what to expect with incoming systems this year.Richard wrote: ↑Mon 03/09/2018 11:13 Apart from strong winds overnight but decreasing now and the 7mm around midnight this event has turned out way different to the forecast, snow lines about 800m around hills here as well, only had a few spits of rain all morning. I don't know if its the constant media hype and amateur webpages consistantly crying wolf, or if there really is something different about this years pattern, but it seems theres been a dramatic increase in 'fizzer's" this year, at least for our neck of the woods.

Re: Cold outbreak 2nd-3rd Sep
Looking at the sat imagery over the last 12 hours, the low moved SE from Canterbury yesterday evening and then NE overnight as it weakened. It moved at a pace that meant the weather is moving on quickly, which is what GFS projected quite well in the last few days. Unless it rapidly deepened and stalled last night, it looked like a fairly standard vanilla flavoured low. It’s certainly going to soak the east side of the NI now….

Nothing to speak of below 1000m for Banks Peninsula or mid Canterbury. Total misfire of a forecastBradley wrote: ↑Sun 02/09/2018 07:56 Metservice now forecasting snow down to 100m for Canterbury
Snow is expected to lower to 400 metres Sunday evening, then to 100 to 200 metres during Monday morning. Significant snow accumulations are expected above 600 metres, and accumulations could approach warning amounts above 400 metres.
