When is this pattern going to break? It’s just like last year but about 8 weeks earlier. Gone from relentless wet to hard dry in a matter of weeks. I’m loving the nice weather we have had and a chance to dry out but to me it looks like two dry months in a row heading into summer which could well be a dry one given the looming El Niño.

As with all the rain bearing systems since June, this mid week system started off looking promising and then will most likely be yet another dust settler

Subtropical air moving onto the upper North Island tomorrow afternoon (dewpoint15C) with some heavy showers/possible thunder developing. An airmass change overnight with the cold front.

Great example of the arch cloud this morning, and a lower cloud formation i call the 'hurunui cloud', this cloud is often seen from Rangiora over Mt Gray, i believe its formed as the results of moisture off Lake Sumner being lifted over the ranges east of the lake. The cloud only forms during the early stages of a NW airflow. Image

I think the rainfall recording facility at the RP airport at Levels, Timaru is faulty as it hasn't shown any rainfall so far this month. This evendent with today's Rakaia radar showing lots of rain in that area this evening?

Came out nice and sunny later this afternoon.
A real mixture of cloud forms though. Easterly winds developing.
Not expecting much tomorrow but we may get some thunder? :-w

Five days without a post in a General Weather thread would have to be a record.

Was a lovely spring day with light winds till the NW wind kicked at about 4.00pm, high of 20.2deg

Well at the moment, it looks like an anticyclonical month, so with not much eventful weather happening, looks like the October thread will be a short one unless something happens at the end of the month.

Warm today with the thermometer tipping out at nearly 20C.
A "few spots of rain south of Kaikoura" (MetService) delivered 3.3mm of rain here this morning.

50%RH or 12deg dew point is really nothing compared to what our northern colleagues get is it

Metservice is nowcasting, trying to predict tonight's lows based on what happened last night. I've never in my life seen a frost here after being above 20C (or above ~17C for that matter ) the day before. And the computer models predict 7 for overnight low. But 28% RH is unusual for here so I guess strange things start happening when air is way drier than normal.

Coming onto rain here, had to get the washing in.
Noticed a few red dots on the rain-radar just north of the Waitaki river.

I see TV3 had Hanmer had 26 deg today which is just rubbish, been watching the two private stations on 'your weather', the Hanmer River Winery being on the south side of the valley is normally the warmest of the two and even that one only made 24deg, the one in town only got 22deg

Overnight low was about 5.5, min 6.3 on mine, and nowhere near a frost. That wasn't hard to predict, never get a frost after a 22C afternoon here , although I understand some parts of South Island that can happen.

Happened to see TV1's temp segment for first time in months tonight. Looked like they displayed Ardmore/Hunua's high for Auckland (23C). Is there a pattern as to which of five possible stations they display?
