Rain intermixed sleet droplets west chch at the moment, will be much colder later on overnight when it becomes showery.
Still thinking the snowline to be around 100m, not that much will settle.

Generally getting colder through the day in Canterbury, I see Methven has had a dusting of snow.

Had some brief hail about 10 mins ago in St Albans. Looking at Hillmorton station, it's colder this afternoon than in the morning.

17mm since yesterday so far, westerly gusting around 60km/h here, which is strong for my position. Around 100 km/h not far from here at another PWS.

Latest water vapour image showing a nice mid level polar injection to give this system a cold sting in the tail.

Lots of wintry showers moving through Geraldine this afternoon with small hail, one shower did leave white accumulations on the lawn but as it was very moisterous, quickly melted but went to Temuka and the roads were dry around there.

Had 17mm so far from this system, about what was forecast. Snow levels are higher around here though of about 500-600 though i noticed it lower inland from Amberley.

I was driving home from work from chch back into Rolleston township and went straight into a hefty hail shower.looked real beefy coming in, big hail shaft wall on it and you could see it falling about 500m away.
Surprisingly no lightning with that convective shower

I drove out to Akaroa and back today, no snow at all but things started to get more interesting in the way back. At Hilltop Tavern there was a graupel shower, and at the top of Dyers Pass my car read 2C. From MetService out looks like there may be snow showers on the peninsula tonight.

The last hurrah of winter passing through now with showers mixed with the odd snow flake and 2.4 degrees...probably the most wintry day of 2018 and its mid October 😊

Came over to the west coast around 6pm last night and while it was very snowy there was only around 4-5cm at the top of porters pass and cars without chains were passing freely, snow actually was falling from Springfield to otira.
Very heavy frost here in Kumara junction this morning with plants and everything covered in frosting.Image
