Yes. We got a total of 11.5mm in 2 hours, from what appeared to be a 'thunderstorm without a thunderstorm', if there's such a thing. Very localized, as Timaru (Levels) or north of the Rangitata river would of got nothing out of this and MS or NIWA would of not recorded a thing as they don't have weather stations around here.

Another grey sky day down here or up here if you live in parts of the country south of here.
No rain, just some drizzle.

Good to see the sun pop out today but there is still lots of ragged Cu about instead of flat boring grey skies.

The sun did poke out this morning which I hope would enhance some development but sadly because of the moisture from the system over us , it didn't develop to much and clouded up again with boring Sc layers gradually taking over. :x

The conveyor belt of upper tropospheric cyclonic vortexes from the polar region are starting to stir the uppers in the tropics. This is not even at popcorn stage and too early to speculate but the Canadians think NZ might have an interesting mid December coming up

Lucky for some! :P

I won't say this is as bad as June was for mid Canterbury, but it's definitely boring gloom. That said, there were a few interesting downpours in the central city and out east over the weekend.

Fine conditions here, some high cloud, a few cumulus towers going up east and south of Auckland, convergence line evident to the east.

Photo of Hunua falls today after the recent wet period. Quite a change from the trickle it was 2 weeks ago! The water is very muddy.

Shame about this cloud today. It’s hard to see the cumulus clouds. When you do get to see them the clouds are very crisp.

I see there is a severe thunderstorm warning for hauraki. Can’t even see that cell except for a darkening of the sky toward that way.

I can see that Hauraki cb from here, looks robust. But there is not much shear today so just pulse type cells.

Some nice overhead thunder right now. Sitting on the verandah with a beer and 5 year old daughter listening to it and teaching her all about it. Bloody good!

Looking like some fairly robust thunderstorms will occur over Southland tomorrow afternoon, also into central Otago. Locally heavy falls of small hail.

Isolated storms for the upper North Island.

Agree Steven, and sometimes these storms seem to often go late into the evening. A few storms down there yesterday evening lasting till like 10:30pm? I've seen that type of storm happen down there over the years on occasion in the summer and would really like to photograph some evening lightning in one of them some time.

Anyone know what this is that I saw this morning on an amazing sunrise. This was looking north and I noticed a orange glowing pillar.

My thoughts it might be a very small rain shaft, otherwise I’m out of ideas.
