Yes, 500mm possible for the Southern Alps, showing 50-60mm here, if only it does.

MetService and BOM as well, Thursday through Saturday looks very, very wet indeed for the South Island. I’m planning to go to the Hororata Highland games on Saturday but let’s see how this pans out!

Sharp increase in moisture levels overnight with EC with 60-100mm over large swathes of mid and north Canterbury, surface flooding around Christchurch looking almost certain...snow level has also dropped down to 500-600m

Side by side – warm moist and cold surface conveyor belts creating a text book baroclinic leaf on the visible and water vapour 2pm satellite pics. Mother nature commencing to brew a Tasman water bomb for parts of the SI

It's only the approach, they will have it operational by this arvo I'm hoping as we have a weekend on the coast.
12mm from late yesterday evening so far here in Rangiora, not heavy but very thick and wetting.

Long roll of thunder with heavy rain...we are in for a deluge for the next 6 or so hours according to Metvuw (GFS) which has been very accurate as per usual...
