Heavy rain/tornado/snow/wind event. 18-21 November
Sunday through to Wednesday appears to be a nasty period especially for East Coast South Island and with low and heavy snow possible.

Re: Heavy rain/snow/wind event. 18-21 November
Eastern Otago and Canterbury plains look favoured for thunder/hail/squall with the trough line moving north tomorrow afternoon.
Hopefully we can get a storm set up over the North Island next week with the cold upper air.

Looks onshore winds along the coast tomorrow to. Wonder if that will put the low risk to atleast moderate for mid and north Canterbury? Severe hail chance maybe?

GFS rainfall total through to midnight Tuesday.
Dunedin area in particular could see some flooding.
Snow possible to 500m but a warming trend during Tuesday.

Looking good from my veiw point for christchurch southwards this afternoon/evening for thunderstorms and hail possibly up to 20mm diamter.
Wind is now SE but i can see a convergence of TCU over north chch with an incoming easterly.
TCU inland and to the south currently, also 18C and rising.
Well worth a chase this afternoon, best spots look to be Ashburton to Rakaia given instability numbers.
Will likely be a classic roll cloud set up.

Very unstable around the peninsula early this afternoon, and signs elsewhere also. Not surprised at the severe TS heading for Waimate right now.

I see mid level cloud heading east, and low level cloud heading west. Bit of shear perhaps!

Looked like a nice hook echo in the 4pm radar scan above that Ashburton tornado.
