Where has all this rain gone? Don’t think we will get half of what was forecast yesterday.

There was a lot of thunderstorm activity north and west of Northland overnight but it has died down to very isolated activity.
We will have a day in Auckland similar to yesterday with a change to partly cloudy skies coming sometime in the afternoon and dry by evening. Looks like some heavy showers will develop behind the incoming rain band this afternoon.

Wont be surprised if we stay dry most of the day again. Same as yesterday

I fail to understand how Metservice can still be saying rain with heavy falls for Christchurch today. The radar is showing nothing apart from patchy drizzle.

Yes , one contradicts the other, rainfall rates are no more than drizzle.

Sun in and out currently 21c with a DP of 19c. Baro 996.4 and falling. Only another 3 mm making it 29mm so far. Front slowing moving down toward Auckland, water vapour has increased in the mid levels over the Hauraki Gulf and central NZ in the last 30 min. Increased water vapour in the mid levels moving down towards the SI to help saturate the easterly feed.

2nd Tasman low around 150 km SW of where models projected it on the 2311 12Z yesterday. That slight move took projected heavy rainfall for the upper NI west and east. Fujiwhara effect now in place with the new surface low now taking energy away from the original Tasman cyclone. The new low should be consumed again within the next 24 hours, reinvigorating the mother low which needs to be closely watched for Tuesday into Wednesday for the NI. A 3rd new small circulation forms near Gisborne later on today as well.

I'd call it steady drizzle occasionally here right now. Could rack up a few mm's after all

Rain starting in earnest now, looks like the opposite to a southwest flow with the showers streaming from the northeast. The wind is picking up as well, not that it totally died off from yesterday. Just got out to do a cheeky bit of gardening before that.

Overcast with a breezy NE now. 11.1mm of drizzly/light rain since last night.
Even though humidity up, it hasn't rained for a while yet, thank goodness.
Over 200mm for the month here now.
