It is the worst November in Christchurch I can remember too.
Not for me. Plenty of hot sunny runs in the port hills this month for me

Not a drop of rain recorded over night here, and only 4mm yesterday, off to kaikoura this morning for work so will see how wet it's up there.

52mm here over the weekend.

Not surprised. Towns from Dunedin to Ashburton have already had 3-4 times their normal Nov rainfall, with Oamaru town up to 5 times. Chch Aero over double.

For Auckland models indicate afternoon heavy shower/thunder development to north of Auckland and also over Hanua. Otherwise we should get a mainly sunny day.

A storm risk again tomorrow for the Auckland region.

In the case of Dunedin sunshine hrs are down with quite a few cool weather days.
They have had a lot of drizzly weather in the mix which can be dreary.
November was good there last year.

Looking at Dunedin weather this week southern parts of the city are favoured for some brighter spells in the afternoons. A drizzle chance in the mornings.

Should be some Thundershowers developing today, a few CB's to the SW off the Coast of Raglan atm.

Will have a better quality of storm if the Sun stays out this afternoon.

Looks like being easily the wettest November on record for Dunedin, given Musselburgh's record high is only 145mm in 1951 (Gardens record is 155mm in 1941). However the sunshine total will be nowhere near a low record (the much higher readings observed since converting to KZ from Campbell-Stokes help of course).

Edit: have to amend that a bit - was looking at Dunedin City's MTD rainfall from MetService. Musselburgh is only about level with the monthly record rainfall at present.

You'd think, but Musselburgh's sunshine hours are currently a little above normal, with only 20 hrs needed to reach its normal Nov total. Mean temps are also currently running a little above normal.

I would say the month started well for sunshine. I think using only the min/ max to calculate the mean can hide coolness.

Those numbers wont show cool changes, for example the cooler southerly arriving am making for a cool afternoon after a mild or warm morning.

edit, yes not far off average

Initiation is already happening, not good for PM convection if the remnants are still round.....

Metservice has been sticking to a fairly wet spell for ChCh tomorrow for a couple of days now. Currently projecting 35mm from late morning to evening. Watching brief...other than that this whole system has turned out pretty dull

Been raining steadily here all night. 182.9mm has been recorded at a rain gauge at Waingawa River at Angle Knob which is on the eastern side of the Tararua Ranges since 9am yesterday.

Good heating today! 22C and dewpoint around 17C. Wouldn't be surprised if thunder started coming from that band soon

No thunder here but was a quick deluge >100mm/hr rain rate. Took this photo as it approached. Weather station anemometer in the foreground (it's not actually on a lean... I just took a crooked photo)

22 still in Matangi (South East of Hamilton), so that line will probably develop quite a bit more........

Yes their projected totals look relatively intense for a short time tomorrow avo. Watching with anticipation.
