Decent plume of moisture in the mid levels near the top of the NI in the last hour appearing on the water vapour image, extending south on the trough off that developing circulation. Who ever falls under the convergence on the NI is going to get a nice localised watering of their garden this afternoon.

Anywhere along the hill ranges have had good totals, my local small river is in flood so that would have to be 50-60mm to bring it up that high.

The highest readings on the ECAN site indicate 200mm+ for the event so far around the Kaikoura Hill country, quite a bit more to come today

Very little rain in kaikoura itself tho, dry nearly all day yesterday.
Bit like saying it was wet in hokitika when in fact it's the hills behind.
Chch airport has recorded more in the last 7days.

We are currently sitting on 115mm this month, which doesn't seem that high for our climate, but actually makes it my station's wettest November. Since I set my weather station up almost 9 years ago November has traditionally been a dry month with not a lot of variation in totals.

Nothing eventuating here today despite good heating. Turned out to be quite a reasonable day given the pressure is down to 996 hPa.

South Auckland got some afternoon showers, stayed dry here with increasing high cloudiness, however there is still the chance of a convergence shower here.

There is a massive amount of water sitting in the skies North East of New Zealand, see what develops of that.

Rain radar looks interesting.

Not here, its only spitting, we are being sheltered by the eastern hill ranges looking at the radar.

Its been 5 years since the last major rain event in this area. We have a stream bed that snakes through our property, it only flows when it very wet and 5 years ago was when it last had a good flow of water.

Poor old kaikoura getting nailed, 12mm in the last hour there, and no real signs of it letting up. CHCH meanwhile is miserable with torrential drizzle. Seems to be setting in again.

Looks like that rain band up there is slightly further South than predicted? Interesting night ahead!

Agreed, I'd go with a bit South and West, hope it continues to stay away from us. It's also bigger than I anticipated at the mo.

I think that's reading too much into things. Kaikoura as wet as predicted but we are still in the BP shadow down here. Radar has made that clear all night

2.3mm here since 9am yesterday.

That BP rain shadow effect is clearly seen on the radar this morning, seems to be extending out as far as the Waimakariri
