Re: General December Weather
Had 37.4mm so far, still might nudge 40 by the time this clears, a very useful rain.
Now what will Friday and Saturday bring in terms of cloud buildups.?

Unstable skies here with heavy showers, the heavy stuff should be east of here shortly.

That line developed nicely for here. A couple of close booms and a quick fire 5mm.

Re: General December Weather
I've been looking at Saturday for storms, still looks interesting with some NE vs SE going on, unstable air and some directional shear.
What I wasn't expecting was the risk MetService have issued for tomorrow, because I wasn't looking at it and i was distracted by Saturday!

Re: General December Weather
Not Bad.
A rather cold 12C for much of the day with grey overcast skies and drizzly showers.
Huddled around the fire this evening and tomorrow at 11:23am, is the Litha, the summer solstace, which means it's the longest day of the year with sunlight.?
That's global warming for you.
Can't wait until June the 21st, when, probably, I'll be sitting around in T shirt and shorts, sitting around the barbee, enjoying a few beers or two, with it beeing bright and sunny and about 20C in NW conditions
Climate change, I love it.

Think you'll find that our summer solstice is on Saturday...NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Thu 20/12/2018 20:44 and tomorrow at 11:23am, is the Litha, the summer solstace

62.6mm today might be a record for my station, operating just since the start of this year. 8mm before midnight also.

Re: General December Weather
Cyclonic warrior EX TC Owen continued ability to survive dry air onslaughts is now starting to feed the atmospheric river poleward towards NZ. EC is now taking this into consideration on this morning’s 12z run which brings moisture to the NI earlier than projected a day ago. It’s also starts pushing moisture into the top half of the SI. This Christmas might be wet in parts of the SI as well as the NI if that verifies.

Re: General December Weather
Another 'claggy' overcast and wet dull day.
Not much wind, if so from the south.

Re: General December Weather
Another 5mms in Halswell, taking us to 30mm for last three days. You will most likely be getting another drenching today Melja!

Had 9mm last night, 47mm for the last few days, and yes, more today.
You would have to go back years to the last time the countryside around here has looked so lush.

Re: General December Weather
Potential there for some heavy thunderstorms/flash flooding in the north of the country 24th through to 26th. Plenty of model variability but the general synopsis is a 500mb low approaching from the NW and moving across the North Island during the period with subtropical moisture.

Re: General December Weather
Hopefully the above event dosen't intrude on the fine weather forecasted here from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as people down here want it fine and sunny after all that 'claggy' weather month, so far.

Re: General December Weather
Amazing.
Today is the longest day of the year and the daily sunshine period is at it's longest time period t'wixt sunrise and sunset. Today being the longest day.
From 11.32am, it is now heading back northwards.
Just went outside and saw condensation on my breath.
12C and pouring down.
Can't wait until winter to put on my shorts and sit outside with the barbee with NW and 20C
