Re: Canterbury Thunderstorms 3 to 5th December
That's one thing I thought could be the problem today.. is this crappy low cloud.
Will be interesting if that acts as a lid on things inland as we really need it to disappear.
Tomorrow looks better, and wensday in Canterbury with a Southerly change.

Re: Widespread T-storms - Dec 1-5
Yes a disappointing day... had 6mm light/moderate rain early morning in Howick and since then just a single brief light shower at 2pm. Sun not making much of an appearance.

Just on the 3 PM news, 4 people have been hit by a lightning strike in Hamilton. It apperently hit a lamp post.
Pulled this of Blitz.

Sun has made a break thru in Christchurch, although any action should be amongst the foothills today. Chance it may drift this far.

Re: Widespread T-storms - Dec 1-5
Starting to look a wee bit interesting here.
The sun came out for a while and boosted the temperature up to 23C.
High DP @ 17C at the moment, with 60% humidity.

Re: Widespread T-storms - Dec 1-5
Just heard flight NZ5655, Christchurch to Queenstown, fly over: it seems to have deviated from its usual route, to avoid the thunderstorms, judging by its track on FlightRadar.

I notice a couple of PWS in Featherston recorded 70-90mm within a 2 hour period yesterday afternoon. e.g. https://www.wunderground.com/personal-w ... 202/mdaily

4 more claps but seemed to have suddenly stop as how it began, moving SW from from Mt. Peel area.
Looking bleak to the 4 Peaks area.

Re: Widespread T-storms - Dec 1-5
I’ve had 25mm today now. This rainfall the past week has been amazing. 52mm for the month of December already.

Meanwhile there's been drizzle and low cloud in Akaroa for all yesterday and most of today. (dry but still cloudy now)
