Our turn in Tauranga at the mo. Rain rate about as high as we can handle without flooding at times. So far so good.

Seems the worst has now passed for the moment at least, peaked at 40mm/hr rate briefly, but fortunately not long enough this round. Dropped temp about 4°C.

Captured the audio of a nice lightning strike nearby when a car crashed across the road from us. The driver was ok.

Nice rumble of thunder, not interested in the car crash, but it was a one of those long rumbles where you expected a 'dump thunder' sound at the end.

Yes I was counting the seconds, at one point was flickering every 6 to 7 seconds. Don't often see that here.

Amazing that the thunderstorm activity in the gulf is still going at 2.30am. The thunder woke me up again.

Been slowly ramping up though-out the day in Waihi, we had some decent storms pass to the east of us around 1 - 4pm but then things started ramping up around 7pm and haven't stopped, it was pretty impressive tonight, i can't remember the last time i have seen a light show so intense.

5.20am and there is still lightning out to the E/NE.

The upper trough is shifting northward today but we should get one more round of heat driven convection today before the system clears off tonight.

Crazy night here! 8-o 82mm since about 11pm last night, most of which fell in a few hours.
And lightning every few seconds for most of the night/morn, including several decent house rattling virtual flangs between 11pm and 1am.

A rare thunderstorm show for NZ to get 8 hrs+ of near continuous lightning, I went to bed at 2am and it was still active to the east with Cb tops lighting up and distant rumbles . Well done NZstorm with your forecasting.
I will post some photos when I get around to processing them.
