That's it for down here as thunder is moving north and becoming fainter with each lightning bolt, mostly cc variety. Keen southerly is blowing in now with a reduction in temperature and clagg moving in [-X
Will post pictures later.
Ashburton and Christchurch, watch out. :smile:

2 Storm cells out to NW of Christchurch are showing organisation on radar and could become supercells.

Saw a CG to the NW of here about 15 minutes ago but too far away to hear the thunder.

Wind strengthened and became gusty here since around 3pm;
spots of rain just began hitting east-facing window.

All rain on the way back home from Rakaia, but plenty of interest to the south still.

Heavy hail around 20mm diameter and brief heavy rain with the storm. Rain easing now. Thunder pretty continuous, and before the hail arrived we had about 5-10 mins of the weirdest thunder I have ever heard, sounded like pop corn going off all around the sky, more like a weapon from a scifi film than thunder.

Storms moved on from Rangiora now, maybe a little sun now could get things going again?

It's shame you didn't record it, Tony :D
The thunder sound here was quite boring and I didn't hear any 'dumps" 8-o :crazy:

A little sun in the break between the initial activity and the front would be great. Still easterly.

That was either a low plane or a long roll of thunder, I think.

Random close sounding thunder overhead in hornby.

Edit, with large raindrops. Still appears to be easterly!?
