Heavier rain moving in now peaking at 22mm/h. Couldn't see any lightning with all the low cloud moving in from the NE and SW at the same time.

EDIT: just peaked at 112mm/h !

Heard it as well, radar didn't indicate anything associated with what could have caused it locally. MS seem to plot it closer to Oxford than chch.

There’s a purple line developing on the radar, embedded in the rain, might clip town.

I think we might get clipped by the front moving NE

Some extremely heavy rain here, lawn,drive and road all overflowing haha

Hard to say, not sure what that would sound like! I don’t think so

"Clagg" with upper level and lower cloud cover, although the rain has stopped thankgoodness.

A non event here...looked promising with distant thunder until the 'clagg' rolled in and now in our normal rainy low cloud cold summers evening.

Weather looks promising from Sunday afternoon onwards...Metservice showing a southwest on Wednesday with showers with GFS showing a fine settled day.

Turned out a non event day here also, that despite it looking threatening at about 7.00 .

YES. It's a term I devised for overcast conditions, where the sky is a persistent 8/8 grey cloud cover, especially low cloud cover and a dull day resulting from no sunshine, which persists without a return to the sun shining again .

We drove down to ashburton and waited around there for awhile, things did look interesting.
Chaser converged with aaron and went with him.
Did get a few close strikes on video but there was to much rain around to get anything decent.
Very much embedded in the rain band, not the isolated thunderstorms I would of thought to be

Chased between Hororata and Rakaia. Very heavy rain at times no hail. Witnessed a number of cgs, one within 100m of me when i was driving.

Plenty of convergence still going on in the city, really interesting to see the heavy rain bouncing around on the radar. Safe to say I won't have to worry about watering the veges for another day!

I haven't had to water anything at all this spring / summer. Very unlike last year!

It seems topographical lift got the severe cell near Rangiora rotating abit yesterday, going by a few photos ive seen it had that pancake look on the top to suggest supercell characteristics.
Whether it met the criteria is another thing but it must have been close given the rain was very torrential in some areas, the hail id say around 15mm from videos ive seen could have been bigger around waimak gorge going by the radars.
Took a drive to ashburton, then ended up in the Winchmore area Rakaia on an active cell with lots of lightning and a few close CGs.
Driving on through Methvan township the roads were like a torrent flash flooding everywhere and storm water drains boiling up from the road.
Also drove past a tree on the side of the road which looked to have been struck by lightning, branches on the ground and a fresh split trunk.
Clocked up a few ks but worth the chase.
