Re: General January Weather
Bugger the Kaikoura webcam from snapithd cuts out at 8:50pm yesterday there must of been a power cut when the front went over. Does anyone know of any other kaikoura webcams that have archives? Also has anyone seen any videos of the wind from Kaikoura?

Re: General January Weather
I have seen a couple of southerly front's like that in Wellington. The big one was on the 12th of March 2010 where a 216 km/h gust was recorded at Baring Head.
From about 40 seconds on this video filmed on Wellington's South Coast it looks like there was rotation on the water at the bottom left.

Re: General January Weather
Is there Aussie smoke in the sky over Waikato? This mornings sunrise was very orange and dull even though it was clear (well slightly hazy)

Re: General January Weather
The sea temperature in the Raglan area was only 18C today. Even 17.6 for a time in the morning. It was well over 20C before Christmas. The cool zone is fairly small, along the coast, possibly will disappear with the incoming warm weather. Quite significant persistent coastal drizzle out there today, while the 7's, only 40km inland was mostly in sunshine by the looks.

Re: General January Weather
Not sure when this happened, but have noticed that the location of a poster no longer directly shows on their post - given many of the posts are cryptic about the location being talked about, this limits the information being communicated

Re: General January Weather
A persistent SW airstream for Auckland this January. It gave us a sunny dry month with the warmest temperatures in the east and north, the coolest area would have been the Manukau Harbour where the Airport is. I expect the averages there to only be a little above normal.

Re: General January Weather
Without looking at the data January here was sunny, dry, breezy and a little warmer than average.
Warmer maximums and sunnier to the northeast of the region due to the SW pattern. On quite a few days looking south from here the weather was cloudy while looking north skies were clear. The same pattern in Spring would bring cloudier than average weather to the region.

Re: General January Weather
The missing sunshine day at Kelburn isn't really - I have notified NIWA of the reading for the "missing" day.
Richmond EWS reported 355 hours' sun - more credible than the 356 New Pymouth claimed for January 2015.

Re: General January Weather
Metservice report page in the DomPost had the sunshine total for the 23rd as 13.6 hours - which looked right. The CliFlo data has nothing for the 23rd, but I have informed NIWA who are checking. The final January total would then be 257.5 hours (not a lot above average but easily the best since 2015).
