i'll try that.
As it's government funded, should be ad free, anyway?

Just as an FYI, metservice.com is not funded by the Government contract - that covers Watches and Warnings and other regulated content only. metservice.com is funded by advertising revenue.

Horray
That Meridian overpage has gone
Back to normal again, instead of going out to make a cup of tea, whilst waiting for it to download

Have you tried using an ad blocker with your browser? The site has to be the slowest of any I visit, with or without ads.

Sadly, it's back again but I've found another way to get onto the website without waiting for that to download. ie. don't click onto their mainpage.

Re: MetService Website 2019
That's sad.
I don't watch ads as I find, in this day and age they are not needed in a way they are advertised on the media and suchlike. If I want something, I'll go out and buy it, whether, it is advertised or not. At lot of the things they advertise for cheap , is for stuff you don't want anyway. ...but then there is the cheap aspect which isn't cheap any way but .......
stop rambing ...John

Re: MetService Website 2019
I guess it is the old adage "nothing comes for free in this world" i.e. unless you are directly paying for something, you are probably paying for it in some other way e.g. by watching an advertisement (in which case the advertiser is paying for your experience) or by providing your user data (in which case, once again, the advertiser is paying for your experience)...

Is it just me, or are others unable to get to the Metservice website? Browsers are preventing me due to some kind of expired security certificates (more than one browser).

Re: MetService Website 2019
My problem is resolved. However the source of the problem is of some concern. My Router is not on default passwords so in theory I'd expect it to be secure. However my DNS Server settings in my router had been changed to 118.30.28.38 (& .39) not what I'd had it set to. Post resetting to my preferred DNS Server & some rebooting I'm back in business again. I'm thinking it might be time for me to upgrade my router as it seems the one my ISP (Trustpower/Kinect) provided is not secure.

My ISP provided router is a different make and model does not resemble any of the quoted ones, it seems they have found further vulnerabilities in other makes/models.

Re: MetService Website 2019
I see they haven't ditched the annoying banner add at the top, but at least now it doesn't take 3 seconds to load and expand just as you are about to click on the menu, and end up clicking on the add?...
Interesting addition of a 'Code of Practice' section to the weather warning products. We will have to be careful on NZ Stormchasers how we share warning info. I guess it is targeted more at other weather organisations, some of whom have taken it upon themselves to issue their own 'warnings' and 'alerts' ...

Re: MetService Website 2019
The code of practice has been in place for a very long time, I would say near 20 years. Its been a source of intense frustration that some of us respect it and adhere to it, while others dont yet MS dont have the will to enforce it.Rogue wrote: ↑Thu 15/08/2019 09:13 I see they haven't ditched the annoying banner add at the top, but at least now it doesn't take 3 seconds to load and expand just as you are about to click on the menu, and end up clicking on the add?...

I did have a quick look on the main Metservice website and couldn't find anything related, but did wonder if it was an existing policy just made more visible.TonyT wrote: ↑Thu 15/08/2019 10:47The code of practice has been in place for a very long time, I would say near 20 years. Re: MetService Website 2019
Could the rain radar images be anymore compressed? Christ almighty.
Also you click 'New Plymouth Radar' thinking it'll be a nicely zoomed in map of the Naki. The map actually spans from Wellsford to past Blenheim.
Huh?

Re: MetService Website 2019
Just had a quick look at the new web-site.
Is it actually Beta than the old one?
Probably will be OK once you get used to it.
No Ashburton on the face page. I always tune into there as opposed to Timaru as the forecast there and weather results are more closer to what they are in Geraldine.

Agreed, also the individual radar maps are still from the composites, not the individual map you expectWilloughby wrote: ↑Thu 15/08/2019 15:05 Could the rain radar images be anymore compressed? Christ almighty.

Improvements to the radar animator are (high) on our roadmap.
We want to get the new website launched first, then will start to bite off the next cab of improvements.

Re: MetService Website 2019
With the revamped MS website, could the prognosis surface weather maps show the isobars in the SW corner as that's where the weather is coming from and the maps default to the current analysis map when you log on, instead of the next prognosis.Matt Pearce wrote: ↑Fri 16/08/2019 11:42 Improvements to the radar animator are (high) on our roadmap.

Re: MetService Website 2019
I see that tomorrows forecast has heavy rain and hail for Canterbury, especially the plains.
Is that the small wintry stuff you get when it's cold or the large damaging one you get with frontal thunderstorms?
They didn't stipulate.
The thunderstorm risk is low.

I've noticed they have included the 120 range to their radars, not only Canterbury and BOP.Willoughby wrote: ↑Thu 15/08/2019 15:05 Could the rain radar images be anymore compressed? Christ almighty.
