At 11.20 it was 32.2, easily going to be warmer than yesterday

Re: Extreme Heat to End January and Feb
From the records that I have Blenheim (well Woodbourne anyway) had its warmest ever heatwave since 1972. 5 days in a row over 28 degrees with the average max for the period of 33 deg. Also had 3 days in January of 35 deg or above which is also a record.

What was interesting about enduring temps like yesterday was by not having a heat pump or aircon it was amazing how hot all our household items became, the tables the cups etc etc were like they had came out of a warming oven. I suppose for those that live in counties around the world where that sort of heat in common they would become use it it, but when you are not that temperature was quite experience.

Re: Extreme Heat to End January and Feb
Its not my data but it is from Jeffs station in Christchurch, and what I would refer to as a trusted source. Records date back to 2000 I believe.
The record for over 30c days in January tied in 2013 and 2017 had 6 days, 2018 beat that with 9 days.
2019 had 11 days over 30c beating 2018 by 2 days.
Quite phenomenal in my book!

Ruakura did indeed >30, 3 days in a row. Note the max is for the day before the date code below as they use a 9am reset.

26117 20190131:0800 30.4 14.9

The station is in a very open field, no trees. Do wonder though if the building of nearby 4 lane highway Wairere Drive about 2013 is having a slight effect on temperatures? Previously, there was only the 2 lane Tramway Rd in the area. The wind has been very light or light NorthEast during this spell, but prevailing W and SW would blow over the new 4 lane road just before the weather station.

Yes, I noticed ( and other people) processing the apricots today, they were much cooler to handle than the ones over the past few days. They come up on a truck over night from Central Otago and are processed once they get here.Richard wrote: ↑Fri 01/02/2019 21:14 What was interesting about enduring temps like yesterday was by not having a heat pump or aircon it was amazing how hot all our household items became, the tables the cups etc etc were like they had came out of a warming oven. I reckon that the station would be far enough going by that photo, shouldn't have to much effect i thinkcbm wrote: ↑Fri 01/02/2019 22:02Ruakura did indeed >30, 3 days in a row. Note the max is for the day before the date code below as they use a 9am reset.

^ yea but interestingly they are in the middle of putting a new road just north of it at the moment. That entire eastern boundary of Hamilton has and still is growing a lot with the new expressway further east.

I agree with Richard the motorway is far enough away not to be an issue.

Any hot air coming off that surface would rise well above that station being that far away. The other thing to consider too is how short is the grass mowed in and around it, short grass plus dry soil would radiate heat.
