Not recorded an air frost yet but I’ve had ice on the grass about 3 or 4 mornings so far. Not much ice but certainly notable.

I see there were frosts and fog and Momona airport this morning, affecting flights.
I can imagine the Taieri basin be in suitations like this .

My station temp got down to 6.4 quite early which made me a bit nervous as forecast lows make it seem not worth covering anything yet, but has stabilised and actually gone up a touch since.
I looked at the April mins at Hamilton Aero since 1991. That was a good one in 2005. Tonight is the last chance for an April air frost this decade, looks like won't see one.

Sorry, even if it did get <0 tomorrow morning it will be May, so this decade has passed without an April screen frost.

Didn't get below 4.0 on my station, despite being 6.4 by 9:20pm last night. I see Jamie's has hit 0.0C though.

Even lighter frost this morning -0.1, 15 years ago we would have been getting -3 frosts by now.

Had a low of 1.7C, no ice, despite unmitigated conditions for cooling overnight. Do think if had not just come off a warm Summer and March would have seen a frost.

Is Mid May is getting a bit ridiculous to have only had a few light frosts for you Richard?

Normally would have been widespread frost's after that front went through yesterday with clear skies but not this year it seems.

In Chch and Banks Peninsula, the wind hadn't died down until the morning.

Yes, it seems some areas of NZ are being effected more by man made climate change than others, what was a 100 frost free period is now 130 -150 day. Though it was only 7 years ago we had a -15deg frost.

Frosty overnight with that crunchy sound as you walked across the grass, late last night, however it was minimal this morning as thickening NW high cloud cover moves across. Down to plus 0.3C.
