Re: Frosts 2019
Thanks John - its good to see you are getting some decent wintry weather. A sharp frost lingering well into a sunny day is one of the joys of winter.
EDIT: According to the MetService page for Canterbury High Country, Twizel had a low of -8°C on Wednesday 5th June.

Re: Frosts 2019
Not sure about that MetService/NZ Transport AWS about 9km SW of the Tekapo township. Although NIWA's Tekapo Aero EWS about 3km west of the township and 760m asl also recorded -7.3C just before 5am on Thursday (6th), it was down to -8.7C around midnight. However, it was even colder last Monday (3rd) with -9.2C just before 9am that morning. Pukaki Aero (470m asl) near Twizel recorded -7.6C on Wednesday (5th).Simon Culling wrote: ↑Sat 08/06/2019 09:22 Thursday morning had a sharp frost in the south according to a MetService tweet. Tekapo recorded -7.3°C and Timaru Airport -4.5°C. Is that the lowest so far this winter?

Re: Frosts 2019
Crystal clear and calm, but no frost here. Low 2.5. This is a September/October type early morning, not June.

Re: Frosts 2019
Looks like I've bottomed out at -1.0C. A breeze bounced the temp back up to 5.9 at 1am, so only 2.5 hours below freezing. There must be heavier frost than this coming before the end of winter. That said, last winter I did not go below -0.1C after July 4 which was quite extrodianary.

Re: Frosts 2019
Down to 1.9C in Howick, cold enough for some light frosting on the roofs and some cars, but didn't notice any on the grass.

Re: Frosts 2019
No frost here but picking there would be quite a bit of ground frost west and south Auckland earlier, the low lying parts.

Re: Frosts 2019
There was good consistency between PWS around Riverhead in particular at around -1C, so no warmer than here.

Re: Frosts 2019
First hard frost in Rakaia this morning. Ice was scraped off the windscreens of both buses. Other mornings we have only had a slight touch of frost which has just started to appear at day break.

Re: Frosts 2019
Good white frost here this morning, down to minus 4.4C.
Traces of frost still around shaded areas from the sun late this afternoon.

Re: Frosts 2019
Another good white frost this morning but advancing cloud cover from the NW meant that the frost cover went off much quicker than yesterday. Down to minus 4.6C, the coldest night of the year so far.
As there is no sun, the day remains cold with it sitting around the 6C mark.

Re: Frosts 2019
Not so bad locally this morning, but traveling down to Opotiki (From Otumoetai, Tauranga) I saw plenty of isolated patches of frost and fog, can't say I've noticed that before. Sadly my current work vehicle lacks an external temperature display (something I should look at resolving), so I'm unable to draw any conclusions err make any assumptions.
