Impressive, but don't think these falls are really too unusual for Milford Sound.
Below are a few stats from NIWA's manual site since records began around 1930.

Milford Sound Rainfall (mm)
6716 … Mean Annual Rainfall
9259 … Highest Annual Rainfall (2016)
1917 … Highest Monthly Rainfall (Oct 1988)
651 … Highest 48 hr Rainfall (Jan 1994)
538 … Highest 24 hr Rainfall (20 Jan 1994)
368 … Highest 12 hr Rainfall (26 Mar 1978)
235 … Highest 6 hr Rainfall (26 Mar 1978)

Some big numbers coming in on the West Coast Regional Council sites and ECAN. 24 hrs as at 6am:

Haast River: 360mm
Cropp: 299mm
Hokitika Rv at Colliers: 348mm (8am)
Whataroa Rv at Highway: 240mm
Mt Cook: 157mm

The event is going to linger most of today at those sites, in fact it may just be winding up for them.

Looks like Milford has gone offine

And its 12-month record of 10015mm for June 1957-May 1958 ...Cropp's 299mm for 24 hours is fairly routine, but of course the 48- and 72-hour tallies may be more interesting ...

Latest WCRC data

Haast River at Roaring Billy 409mm as at 10:46am

Mt Cook Village from Ecan 325mm for event so far. So significant spillover to the plains I'd say

Waiho River at Franz is insanely high

Looking at Cropp Waterfall on the WRC site - 613.5mmm for the 24 hours to 11.06am - 645mm from the start of the 25th.

Edit: now 721 mm from the start of 25/3. I don't think its 48-hour record of 1062mm is under threat yet, but wait and see.

Yep half of Waiho Bridge at Franz Josef has been washed away, those West Coast bridges are designed to handle ALOT of water as well

This bridge is kind of designed to be washed away, that's why it's temporary style bridge on steel piles and not a concrete structure.

I bet those people who were standing on the bridge, earlier, were glad they weren't on when the bridge finally gave in to the pressure of the water flowing under it. 8-o

There is an incredible video emerging of it being washed away. And whether it is designed to go or not... it still takes a huge amount of strength to do it.

It's what they call a "Bailey Bridge" designed to give way in conditions like this but can be easily put back once the waters recede. There are one or 2 bridges like this on the West Coast.
