Got 12.8mm on Thursday which I think is more than some areas , but still only only on 104.8 YTD. Looking back, in 2008 got 20 then 37mm next day about this date.

Brilliant blue sky day, coolish 7.8C min and 17.6C max. Feels like tonight could be even cooler.

Low of 5.4C for Howick this morning - the second lowest April temperature for here behind 4.8C in April 2011.

Not sure where it was taken, but I see NIWA also has 5.4C for Akld this morn.
https://twitter.com/NiwaWeather/status/ ... 9795846144

Also noticed that Akld Aero got down to at least 7.8C and Ardmore Aero to 3.2C earlier this morn, although not too unusual for April. T-min of 7.5C here.

Looking like Akld Aero's average T-max for first 24 days of April will be slightly above normal, and T-mins about 1C below normal.

Can you see into the future, or do you mean 14 days ;-)
Interestingly my station is running a little on the cooler side for average maximums so far this month

I agree, it’s feeling like a very different lead up to winter this year compared to last year, I know with an abnormally hot summer, SST anamolies off the chart etc there is plenty of similarities to last year so it would be logical to assume winter will follow a similar route to 2018 but the southern ocean is already showing plenty of signs of being way more active this year and once the SST’s come back down to closer the long term average after what will be almost certainly a colder then normal April I have a feeling we could be in for extended periods of snowy, colder weather mid winter with plenty of vigorous S to SW polar troughs - but that might just be the eternal optimist coming out in me lol

This April is feeling cooler because March this year was so warm. But also recent Aprils have been very mild and balmy. Last year the first 10days of April averaged 22.3C.

Kind of stating the obvious...

"An anomaly in MetService's weather data showing Levin being battered by more than 400km/h winds on Friday is inaccurate, according to the weather forecaster...."

Hmm… something very fishy going on here:-k
NIWA has the same 5.4C T-min this morning for all 3 of its Mangere, Motat and Albany sites?

Update: Above Mangere, Motat and Albany T-mins confirmed (Akld Aero's was 7.3C).

Yes, could well be Akld Aero's first cooler April than its 1981-2010 normal since 2007 though.

Average daily min for April is running 5C lower than March here, that's certainly an unusually large variation for consecutive months in this part of NZ.

NZ April temperatures have been on the cool side of average after the warmer than normal March.

Looks like some unsettled weather in the weather mix for the Easter period over NZ.

With the cool weather this month after an exceptionally warm March I decided to have a look at the March-April differences in the 7SS. In 1924 April was about 5.2C warmer than March, but in 1950 it was less than 0.05C cooler.

Such a boring summer for thunderstorms (except for Decemeber). Throwback to an awesome thunderstorm in the Manawatu on 2/12/18

Just realised the calculation I did was for April-May, not March-April! :(

Will do the March-April and post the results soon.

The corrected March-April numbers are quite interesting. March 1968 was the warmest on record, with April a little cooler than average, giving a drop of 4.77C. But in 1956, after a record-breaking January and warm February, March was dry and cool, more than 1C below the 1981-2010 normal. Then April was the warmest on record with some ex-tropical visits and very high rainfalls in the far north, resulting in it being 1.09C warmer than March!
