Yeah, pretty uninteresting today, a rather pitiful 3mm of showers.

yeah metservice gave today moderate. but only light drizzles. tuesday might of been the only thunderstorms day this month. lets see tommorow as another front moves in.

Tomorrow's thunder chances are aimed at Taranaki in the morning with a possible severe squall there 100km/h.

May typically gives Auckland a couple of thunder days, probably after mid May. We want to see the polar jet stream move into the North Tasman.

We had a good shower in the 5-5.30pm window (didn't note actual time). Just a squall line coming through kind of thing, no high winds or lightning seen/thunder heard scenario. Was a good one though, would guesstimate peak rain rate at about 30-mm/hr.

Looks to be a half decent low forming on the radar off the Canty coast?

Yes, it seems to be moving further north from here, now.
Had 33.1mm since this morning, easing off a little now. Still overcast and grey but not that windy as i thought it may have been. Been light West to SW here.

The westerly action is well north of Wellington city as is typical for that scenario. All change when the southerly arrives.

That's the windiest weather I have been in since I moved to Christchurch 6 years ago, easily 90-100kmh gusts here in Woolston, sheets of corrugated iron flying around everywhere and branches littering the streets

The southerly front is getting closer to Wellington. This is the Lyall Bay live stream that this picture is from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiH7_P0EOLc

A number of power outages around Chch and the Peninsula. Itsbeen a big blowout that's for sure, along long time since I've seen wind this strong at home.
