My records began in 2001 and I've never recorded under 200mm by the end of May.
Very simillar here. Just 163.4mm YTD. On same day last year was 509.6mm YTD.
Even an average June would put me on about 250mm for 1/2 the year, when average annual rainfall for this area is 1100-1200mm, lowest in records since 1908 is ~830mm.

More fog early morning and later afternoon between Waikuku and Amberley. Shouldn't have much of that from this weekend by the looks!

Haven't see that whilst we have been here.

yes heading north this afternoon from CHCH it was foggy/haze as till Waipara, then over the Weka pass into crystal clear air with the NW Wind, amazing transformation.

Problem is fog is not really that photogenic, especially at night :D

Well put together video, nothing more depressing and miserable than a visit to Birdlings flat beach on a bitter cold winters day, beats sitting by a nice warm fire any day.

It looked like one of those London fog/smog nights with the still air, espcially under the streetlights.

Birdlings Flat to me conjours, as far as the weather goes, a place that is ... cold and raw.
Not a place to take the family to for a summer hoilday

Arrived back around 1.30pm in Amberley, and was the densest so far this week between about 3pm and 6pm, the visibility often below 200m, and driving out to Rangiora around 6pm was under 100m. Traffic was slowing significantly on SH1.

Here in the ChCh this is a warmer than normal May, but its slightly cooler by less than half a degree mean than last May so far. Last May was pretty darn mild too, but I think it fell away towards the end, whereas this May looks like having a very mild last week in our hood

The thick fog settled on Chch tonight, just about as thick as it was on the highway yesterday but with more streetlights to help out on the roads! It's been amazing to see it this week.

Looking favourable for thunder over the North Island Tuesday.

The 500mb chart tells the story, strong upper level trough approaching.

Tuesdays charts for midday.

Looking like there is another significant trough coming our way later next week which may give the deep south it's first taste of real Winter weather

The MS went out on a limb last night predicting fog here that would only be clearing about now. Instead there was precisely none. They had back tracked by first thing this morning. It must be amongst the most difficult things to forecast.

According to the weather on TV tonight, it was a rather cold day in Christchurh, whereas, it was quite a warm day down here, despite a calm day and smokey looking haze towards the foothills. Thin NW cloud.
Took no photos but was amazed at the Collectables shop in Mayfield. If you are looking for junk, you are likely to find this here.

Not often you’d ever see Christchurch the hottest and coldest location in New Zealand at the same time!

True, just that they wont produce a lot of weather for us easterners apart from a lot of warm wind, though my area should get some spillover rain Tuesday
