In that case it seems MetService don't think that will happen. Going by the 3-day rain map it looks like the higher ranges might block the majority of the precipitation from reaching Porters, and after mid-aftenoon it tails off.snowchaser01 wrote: ↑Thu 06/06/2019 11:29
2.3deg in the village and dropping... safe to say it will be snowing soon at the top of the road considering it is nearly 200m above the village...

Re: General June Weather
The cold upper air crossing Auckland around the middle of the day. May be a rumble or some small hail.
Current dp 10C is good but can that moisture hang on.
midday 500mb chart. Looks like a decent upper level trough.

Surprisingly wet here in the early hours. Really heavy at one point, woke me up. Had 18.6mm in an hour and 28mm total.

Feels wintery even with the sun shining here, but it's the wind that's making it feel unpleasant.

Brief squally downpours continue to move through here. Radar showing quite a punchy cluster swinging in from the Tasman towards Auckland now.

Some of the heavier showers have had small hail, clearing conditions arriving here now as the trough moves east.

Re: General June Weather
Our building at work in Albany was hit by a huge gust on the leading edge of a squall about 2pm, caused some internal damage with glass walls and doors that are mounted against the suspended ceiling. Evacuated and sent home early. Certainly the largest gust I've experienced working there for the last couple of years!

Took a snap of the approaching squall. I see some exposed PWS's on the North Shore clocked 100 km/h as it passed. It's thrown out a few sparks as it's hit Northland.

Re: General June Weather
A cool but sunny day. I'll take the southwesterly flavour any day over the more southerly/SE type - a noticeable improvement this year after 3 years of too few of the former and too many of the latter.

Re: General June Weather
Don’t look at the GFS then RWood, currently modelling a sustained southerly-southeasterly around the 18th-22nd. A long way off, but this week it has been flipping between something pretty cold and milder west-southwesterlies.

Re: General June Weather
Yes been watching that.... showing some crazy cold numbers for down this way, very early days but something to watch.
THK levels of 518, and 850MB temps of -8 is sea level territory for sure.

Yes. We seem to be in a westerly 'draught' this time of year, so it may be interesting or boring to see what eventuates?

The overnight low at Auckland Airport was 14C and yet yesterday afternoon it was down to 10C with hail.
Check out the 850mb chart today. Contrasting air masses.

Re: General June Weather
Windy cloudy weather today for Auckland with a light shower or two in the mix, wind is gone tomorrow with mainly fine conditions, high cloud later.
