Rainy evening out there, a few heavy bursts mixed in as well. Up to 37mm for the day now

man i know. hell of a storm this. tornadoes in northland. massive thunderstorms.

The instability with tonights front is struggling on the ukmet, looks better on gfs which is showing a colder sounding.

Got a reasonable amount of rain here from this system - 47mm. More than I was expecting, but it seems to be a locally high total looking at other readings from Auckland.

24mm for the thread here so far.

Bit of a follow-on from this, low to moderate risk Friday through Saturday of severe gales for Southland, coastal Otago/South Canterbury and Banks Peninsula.

Glad you guys up north got some rain. I was looking at the hydro risk curves this week and the South Island lakes are nearly full, meanwhile the North Island ones are very low! Glad that iron-clad subtropical ridge weakened/moved north in the end.
