Rainy evening out there, a few heavy bursts mixed in as well. Up to 37mm for the day now

The instability with tonights front is struggling on the ukmet, looks better on gfs which is showing a colder sounding.

Got a reasonable amount of rain here from this system - 47mm. More than I was expecting, but it seems to be a locally high total looking at other readings from Auckland.

Yesterdays half a dozen nearby CG's will hopefully add plenty of nitrates into the garden through the process called 'atmospheric nitrogen fixation'. A brief explanation in this link for those interested gardeners who like storms

Bit of a follow-on from this, low to moderate risk Friday through Saturday of severe gales for Southland, coastal Otago/South Canterbury and Banks Peninsula.
Glad you guys up north got some rain. I was looking at the hydro risk curves this week and the South Island lakes are nearly full, meanwhile the North Island ones are very low! Glad that iron-clad subtropical ridge weakened/moved north in the end.
