You might like to retract that, Hanmer Springs has had snow settle

11mm here, not as much wind as I was expecting and looking at the hills a snowline of about 350m

Hanmer is about 350m, they were saying snow falling to 200m, I'm at 243m and nothing so why would I retract that.

Just driven Chch to Kaikõura. Snowed from halfway up the Hundalees so around 200m probably, didn't stick as the road was already very wet but definitely full-on snow nearer to the top. Sleet in Kaikõura now. Otherwise a very wet drive and also in parts a bit blustery.

It also turned to sleet on the northern side of the hills. 3C in Kaikõura and hosing down.

Murphys law. It's all about wind direction I'd say, and perhaps some convection

Nothing much here. Seemed to be mainly out to sea.
Nice and sunny here this morning.

Some decent "chain showers" coming through ChCh at present. Could be a dusting on Mt Herbert, although it seems the stronger the wind the higher the snowline in these events?

Yes and according to Metservice computer generated rainfall amounts (if they can be trusted), a cold and showery night on the way for Christchurch with about 10mm overnight with forecast temps around 4-5deg. Maybe a dusting above 600m on BP by morning.

The visible snowline on the Seaward Kaikouras has come down to about 7-800m today, at least looking at the treetops. No doubt there's some lying around below that level under the canopy though.

Here's a photo I took yesterday of the mountains yesterday prior to the arrival of yesterday's cold front.
Hoped for something more substantial today but nothing much really.

Once it had cleared enough to get a look of the hills I reckon the snowline was more like 400-500m, can I at least have some of my retraction back again razor

Yes just been for a midnight snack drive down to countdown... observed torrential sleet with flakes on the windscreen. some beefy showers moving through over the next few hours so god knows what they will bring.

EDIT: Sleet again here now... at sea level by the way.

Looks like a very decent amount of snow on Mt Herbert this morning
