Re: Very cold polar outbreak August 3rd-5th
Metservice updated warnings and watches out.. much the same but Canterbury north of Rangiora upgraded to a warning. 8-12cm to 200m. But the time frame is saying 8 hours from 1pm to 9pm Monday.... that must be a typo. 1pm to 9pm today makes a lot more sense.

Looks like another uneventful day here so far. Clear and sunny yesterday, very nice at a café on the south coast with a view to the Kaikouras. Tapuaenuku looked good with its lowest snowline I've noticed this season.

Metservice stubbornly sticking to little or no moisture for ChCh, presuming they've had good reason to toe that line the whole way over the last day or three

Re: Very cold polar outbreak August 3rd-5th
Yet they just issued a road snow warning for porters pass... so they are thinking moisture will be far enough south... or atleast close to it. I think there is one more twist in this... snow warning out for this afternoon/evening for Rangiora northwards.

1C at midday in Hokitika, I’d say that would be a very rare event for them indeed...

Very unusual for sea level in the north of Westland.

Skies are darkening over town, it's still so marginal for us. I feel we'll miss out on much in town, but would love it if I'm wrong about that and GFS is right!
Herbert got some more snow in the top overnight by the looks, I'll expect it to look whiter tomorrow!
Amazing to see snow to sea level on the coast though
