Some hints of TCu over Amberley now, and increasing cumulus mediocris.

Blowing up to the west and north, cumulus congestus and plenty of development.

Although there is a chance this afternoon i think tomorrow looks better for Canterbury.
We dont quite have the convergence tomorrow but more moisture. Looks to be sunny in morning to before SW change about lunch time.

A few glaciations resulting in sparse heavy drops of rain around here this afternoon with winds 'twixt east and south.
Quite cold looking.
Interesting to see what happens tomorrow?

Certainly heard the SW change on the 4th level of my work office in the CBD, some reasonable gusts whistling past.

Just had a shower in St Albans, Chch. (more shower activity inland) Surprised there's nothing on Metservice's thunderstorm outlook for Canterbury this afternoon.

Darkening sky in Amberley now, but doesn't look like thunder on the radar. Hope I'm wrong.

Moderate risk for the entire eastern South Island tomorrow from MS.

Interesting to see MS pull down that low risk for the east coast from chch northwards, as there has been a few strikes from a cell near the waimak gorge earlier on.
Also a thunderstorm just over the Richmond ranges currently.
Tomorrow looks fruitful for Canterbury and possibly Thursday too.

Talking to Richard today (Who is having forum problems at the moment) said, there was some lightning strikes around the Darfield area today.
Interesting skies here late afternoon/evening with lotsa castellanus forms which usually means thunderstorms within the next 24 hours, none of this heavy and thundery showers rubbish. [-X

Id definitely be keeping eye on sky tomorrow john. Was a chance today for a storm but looked better tomorrow.
As long as the sun is out in morning, and the winds can stay light at the surface. CBs might be low topped though
We shall see!! 🤞

Wow, I moved a MDU (Mobile Dental Unit) from Galatea to Kawerau South today. Air temp at Galatea was low enough to see see your exhaled breath. The hail was small or just small percentages of the largish cold drops of rain. But the wind was up and cut you in half material. I'd suggest you were lucky :-)

Had a beefy shower laced with hail come through South East Auckland around 9.30 this evening. Certainly wasn't expecting it.

theres been a few heavy showers tonight. the last one though i heard something on my roof. i thought that cant be hail. turns out that proberly was. these showers may continue through the night. i think its due because today was quite cold compared to recent days.
