Road to Vallee de la Luna, Chile - at about 2700m ASL. Little wind in the nearest town but blowing very strongly at this high point.
Street in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile - solar radiation very strong even in April - region experiences some of the highest UV readings in the world at higher altitudes.
Lluta river valley, northern Chile near Peru border. Rainfall in lower reaches is negligible.
Enclosure near Arica, Chile (1992) - not much work for the rain gauge.
High altitude physics lab, Bolivia. The nearby skifield is now closed permanently.

On road from Arica to La Paz. Not much lawn maintenance needed.

Parinacota volcano (6348m), on Chile-Peru border.

That's right - and El Nino conditions meant that the Chilean coastal zones were significantly warmer than usual, with the deaths of a lot of fish in warmer waters than usual in some parts. The volcano here is sitting on a base about 4360m ASL, so the "rise" in the photo is about 1990m. Magical area, photo doesn't do it justice.

I can totally understand what you are saying, it looks an amazing area.
