Japan played well and Scotland paid for a poor first half. The hosts will have given South Africa something to think about.

England play the first quarter final next Saturday (19th) against your best friends, the Aussies. The current forecast for Oita at kick-off time (4:15pm local time) is for partly cloudy skies with some sunshine, a light breeze, and a temperature of 24°C. The stadium has a retractable roof, so let's hope it is open for the game.

Moving forward from Typhoon Hagibus and its impacts, its looking like quarterfinal footy next weekend will be wet for those venues that do not have a roof.

Discussion round here is what the odds are of a Japan v All blacks final, unlikely but entirely possible

There has been a slight change to the forecast for Oita for Saturday. Kick-off (England v Australia) is about 7-8 hours away and the showers are expected to finish just before the start of the game which is now expected to be dry with a temperature of 22-23°C

The 8am METAR for Oita airport is RJFO 182300Z 29005KT 210V330 9999 FEW005 SCT015 BKN025 21/21 Q1014

that would suit the Irish as it always rains in Ireland, due to common belief?

The weather does not appear to have affected the first quarter final as the standard of the play from both sides was very high. Good luck to the All Blacks in the next QF - this will be Ireland's final, so they will be going for it.

The METAR at kick-off time for Oita was spot on the forecast: RJFO 190700Z 32010KT 9999 FEW025 24/19 Q1015

The current METAR for Tokyo (Haneda) just before kick-off for the NZ v Ireland game is:

RJTT 190900Z 19011KT 9999 -SHRA FEW009 SCT040 BKN090 22/21 Q1013 BECMG 33008KT RMK 2CU009 3SC040 7AC090 A2993

It is interesting to see they expect a complete reversal of the wind direction. The Ajinomoto Stadium is an open air stadium.

Typhoon Bualoi is a new one to watch for the All Blacks and England match this Saturday. Currently JTWC has Yokohama in the cone of uncertainty. Almost all models currently have the Typhoon riding the ridge east of the main Island but I'm sure World rugby and JMA will be closely monitoring over the next 48 hours.

Latest forecast still steers Bualoi away to the NE, so hopefully minimal effects for the rugby games this coming weekend.

The current forecast for Yokohama for Saturday kick-off time for the England v New Zealand semi-final game is drizzly rain and 20°C with a light southerly breeze.

Forecast for the first semi-final in Yokohama in 12 hours time has not changed much - it is still for drizzly rain with a temperature of 21°C.

Tough game to call, but I think the All Blacks have the edge. England will have to be at there very best to win this one, but it is a one-off match and winner takes all.

Thanks Willoughby - fast start to the game from England, but a long way to go.

Many of the Japanese METAR observations seem to have a layer of broken AC - must make for some good sunsets and sunrises.

It is not often you see the All Blacks get made to look terrible, England were very good tonight and must be favourites to win the World Cup now.

Yes disapointing, atleast in this World Cup we can say the All Blacks were beaten by a better team, England looked considerably better than the All Blacks.

Indeed, England played exceptionally well and particularly in defence. The margin could have been wider but for the two disallowed tries.

Onto the final next Saturday in the same stadium in Yokohama. The current forecast for kick-off time (6pm locally) is for partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 17°C and a light NE breeze. The day should see some sunshine and a maximum of 20°C.

The forecast for the weather turned out to be correct, but the bookies favourite did not win the match. Well done to South Africa - they outmuscled England in all departments, especially the scrum.

It is quite a bit cooler now in the north of Japan - Sapporo has sleet and snow showers in the forecast for this coming Thursday + Friday.
