Nothing much happening down here although the westerly cloud cleared away to the NE leaving some distinctive mammatus forms underneath it.
Winds up a bit from the South to SW and a rather mixed looking sky with a few heavy drops. Now low cloud moving in from the south.
Temperature dropping as well.

Seems to have picked up over the city a little. Easy 80km gusts when it hit me outside Tai Tapu, but I was always behind the eight ball on this one as had to finish up work. Not very active, def not deserving of that watch yet

Snowing here now, only lightly but looking at the radar it could be a pretty interesting afternoon

Seems to be picking up now in mid-Canterbury, especially around Darfield.

Gone messy. Turning into rain band. Definitely not worth the risk in the end! Weather is a strange thing here in Canterbury.. you get what looks like a great chance and dont get much and yet u get a low risk day and it goes nuts. 🤷‍♂️

25mm hail now. Cloud had some rotation evident as it passed over. Serious hail intensity at present.

Hook echo on the southeast side of it? Definitely a severe cell over you right now.

Well i think the "isolated storms" part of the event is occurring with the more set in stuff still to come... interesting evening ahead.

The NW wind thats been blowing all day has just swung southerly, sadly all the action slipped past to the east.

The odd very strong gust here in Kaikõura, looking ominous to the south. Looks awesome to the north, a big cell up that way.

Must be quite strong winds in the upper levels going by the fast development and movement of the cells, even up here in Nelson heavy showers moving through very quickly.
Id say watch those snow levels tonight right up to kaikoura, first dusting to sea level after the equinox.

There was a bolt of lightning towards sugarloaf (looking from New Brighton) at 4.50 and a long thunder roll (5-10secs) then nothing else.
I'm no expert but I love severe weather!

Well here comes round 2 on radar. A little bit of heavy stuff offshore from ashburton but nothing to be excited about yet.
Will be interesting to see what it has to offer.
Hope you got your fire going john. I just lit mine, its bloody cold out there, but no wind at all in rolleston.

Radar is starting to look pretty interesting to the south.

Nothing in Kaikõura other than some periods of strong wind.
