I see Napier Airport on 23C this afternoon. Ashburton looked the coldest main town with the temps in single figures all day.

Re: General October Weather
Cold day here too. The sun came out this afternoon.
Where is the ooomph in the weather?
I thought that with climate change we would get more thunderstorms and action oriented weather ??
This is pathetic?

Re: General October Weather
Things starting to dry out slowly here, only 7mm rain last 10 days. Looks like we might get a moderate drop late week though.

Re: General October Weather
Locally, daily mean temperature for the first week of October is 13.2c. That's a drop of 1.8c from the first week of October 2018. I've yet to crack 20c this spring, closest was 19.5c on 5 September. This time last year I'd had 11 days over 20c for spring.

Re: General October Weather

Re: General October Weather
Yes, I see that, however MS has a low or non-existence of thunderstorms for this current rain event on another thread on this forum.

Re: General October Weather
Those events are not uncommon in the western to central Tasman in mid to late spring as instability moves off Aussie. If they are going to affect NZ, they typically track toward Fiordland/Westland.
Looks like sunny 21C in Auckland today before the cloud and precip comes back tomorrow.

Re: General October Weather
GFS 18z starting to align with EC 12Z with the current Tasman cut off upper cold pool that originated from the polar trough over SE OZ, injecting the next Tasman low next Tuesday. This produces an upper level fujiwhara effect that fuels a mid latitude cold core cyclone around the upper NI on both models. Still plenty of time for things to change but a rogue cold pool is always interesting when interacting with moisture.

Re: General October Weather
Hit 22.7 on my station. Warmest day since last Autumn by a large margin. I had just cleaned and repainted the screen bright white a week or two back so should be reading as correct as can in urban environment.

Looks like a week of 'clagg' coming up for the rest of the week and into next week.
I hope not.

Re: General October Weather
With a bit of luck weekend will end up mainly fine for a lot of areas.
The low pressure system early next week will likely be a wind problem for exposed parts of Northland/Auckland with power cuts is those areas.
