Some small hail in Auckland this morning with 11C. Near gale out at the airport earlier this morning.

The Auckland city fire yesterday was made a lot worse by the strong winds.

Here's a video of the road, had to use a torch as it was so dark:

I can confidently state that the rain intensity was way above a reasonable amount for the system to cope with and for a long time. I'd guess at least 25mm fell over my place and that's conservative. Hence my road ending up like that ^. Not that it helps those affected, just hopefully they could get insurance to cover losses.

Heavy rain now in Kaikoura but no thunder as yet, noticed a moderate risk had been put out but I've only just seen it.

Sleet or melted hail stones? I wondered that too but there was also sporadic hail stones at the time.
Some areas like Halswell got some decent isolated heavy hail by the sounds.
Wind is now light westerly as the band clears away, heavy unstable showers still a possibilty inbehind it as the heating returns.
Nice mamatus photo razor

Bit better on this side of the city, got some sunny spells here this afternoon which helped the temperature make it up to 18.3C briefly.

Looking like the pattern becomes less mobile in November so hopefully plenty of sun in November. October has been quite a dull windy month.
