One of the team from last year got a smashed windscreen and other hail dents/damage today near Childress TX. Jealous as. Only 5 days out from when I was booked to go over. The other Canadian Team Members are also sitting it out this year & we all are hoping it will be resolved in time for next year.

Childress is a real hot spot. Seems to always produce!

Some weak upper level troughing modelled there next week which means more isolated supercells/gorilla hail.

Looks like you would be starting the chase trip by heading for the western high plains/Nebraska for sculptured supercells. A lot of driving.

Model pattern has got worse in the last couple of days so I would not have been getting on the plane tomorrow. Chase strategy would be to delay travel and hope!

Looks like a cut off low over the eastern states will shut tornado alley down for the first few days of our trip.

500mb chart for Tuesday.

Haven been booked to fly over on Wed 14th, today would have been the first chase day of my planned trip. I can only wonder if yesterday we would have pushed down from our meeting point of Detroit for the higher risk in not so great to chase area or stayed closer and chased the lower risk. In any case, only one member of our team from last year did any chasing this season & has concluded his chasing post vehicle hail damage.

Great structured supercell west of Garden City Kansas yesterday captured by Basehunters Chasing. Gotta love west Kansas storms!

GFS indicating more of that structure tomorrow over N Kansas/Nebraska and then the severe potentional degrades as a cut off low develops over Texas early week.

Weather history yesterday in North Texas. This could be the largest hail stone recorded.

Good to see Jane & Clyves vehicle there behind the truck with the weather instruments on the roof :-) When she confirmed it was them (only really asking to make them aware of the video if anyone else hadn't), she commented "I'm surprised you couldn't hear Clyve yelling at the truck driver to move.", that was something I had imagined him doing.

I mentioned one of my chase partners from last year had been out this year and had his vehicle damaged by hail near Childress TX and had concluded chasing. The intention this year was we were going to meet up with them and chase some of the time with them, them concentrating on structure & staying out of the bears cage. Matt & his girlfriend Sarah are both great photographers, you may like to check out some of their work.

If there was an upside to the travel bans, missing this years chase season would be one!

WTF
Some fruitloop a couple of weeks ago threw toys from toybox in social media about tornadoes not being tornadoes when the funnel isn't fully condensed. Apparently the presence of obvious ground circulation proving it had made it to the ground doesn't mean it's from the funnel/confirms it as a tornado. I guess people are reacting to it (that Facebook account making the noise has since been closed).

some people thinks that a tornado has to be fully visible. they dont. funnels here in nz often get called mini tornado lol.
