Temuka must of got the national high of 31C. I maximised out at 30.7C.
Timaru airport at 29C.
Calm and very warm here at 27.4C, now, with thin NW cloud cover.

See MS have uped the high here to 28 for tomorrow. 28.3 is the November record and might see it twice in the same month from different systems.

One of my gauges I use is visibility of White Island from the Matata straights when heading to/from the Eastern BOP. Yesterday was the first time I've seen it in many trips, but it was barely visible, despite heightened activity and an obvious cloud. The air quality isn't great of late. Have certainly noticed the red tinge in the sunlight from smoke on some days. Summer is nearly here, first night I was outside till early morning hours in just a T Shirt this season.

Interesting I was was thinking the opposite haha. Feels like you need a warm top outside after 6 pm most evenings in Auckland recently. Yesterday getting off the ferry at 7.30pm felt particularly unsummery, 15C with fresh SW.

Warm day in my hood. 29.9 on my station, 28.9 at a very reliable/conservative PWS down the road. The westerly that capped Hamilton Aero to 26 or so never made it here.

I think that 30C temperature at Taupo could be a November record.

MS confirmed that its 30.7C at Taupo Aero today did indeed smash its previous Nov record (27.2C in 2010) since records began there in 1976.

This mornings smoke is by far the thickest Ive seen, but the main difference is its down to ground level, normally you see the smokes high and the visibility remains clear, barely make out the mountains that are only 10km away.
