Nice Guy Fawkes night here.
The dry southerly came through around 9pm and I haven't heard a single firework yet.

Re: General November Weather
GFS has amped up the low that crosses the South Island over the weekend, some packed isobars over Chch and rainfall totals looking high as well for North Canterbury. That might change but it might be worth its own thread depending how modelling goes over the weekend.

Re: General November Weather
Auckland city's turn to have a cooling ocean effect (reverse situation of the SW wind)
24.5c here but only now 21 c At Ricky's place as the wind increases from the NE (was nearly 24c)
update : we nearly made it to 26C before the sea breeze..and with a dew point of 17c now with the sea breeze its like summers day here
I see Jamie in the Waikato is on 26C too (a new Nov record for him) (and M/S has Hamilton City on 27.5c currently)

Re: General November Weather
Interesting Sunday coming up initially for the NI. Interacting Jets, total totals over 50, K index near 38 projecting on EC. Might be quite a few rumbles. Then a robust upper trough kick starts a Cook strait surface low that cuts off east of the SI. These set ups can escalate quite quickly.

Re: General November Weather
A lot of storms in the Tasman tomorrow and South Island West Coast in the firing line for those. Looks like the thunder chance comes onto the upper North Island very early Sunday.

Possibly a NE flow running into a northerly for local convergence on Sunday.

Re: General November Weather
that setup, with the high humidity, has produced a nado in Auckland before...(more of an autumn thing though?)

Re: General November Weather
What a stunningly warm start to November. 26 degrees already again as at 9am here in SW ChCh.
If the forecast holds true we'll be easily running 2.5-3 degrees warmer than average for month to date by Sunday, certainly offsetting the "cooler" September and October

After a dry 4-5 days' start, Cropp Waterfall is now at 583mm for the month, more than half of that in the last 24 hours or so.

Flew from Chch at 5:45am today to get to Auckland, it was warm but the NW was getting up a bit and made for a few bumps on takeoff. Very pleasant in Auckland right now, sunny with just a few clouds dotted around.

Re: General November Weather
ya poor bugger, not a great fan of high humidly myself.
I'm liking the look of Monday's storm potential at this stage, something to keep an eye on.
