newshub used the "mini tornado term" no such thing as a mini tornado. that was quite strong.

waterspout reported at new brighton. so that was definatly a tornadic storm.

Yes. just been talking to Bob Crowder, who also mentioned seeing a waterspout in the Pegasus Bay area.

the last time canterbury had a tornado was excactly one year ago to this date. the north ashburghton one that looked huge. so a year later (now) another tornado hits canturbury hitting in christchurch suburbs. plus waterspouts. so odd.

saw a great video from a news room in Chch (filmed from outside that ) of the tornado close by!

Biggest hail from that storm was probably 10-15mm here. Lots of lightning but hard to capture until after it had moved away. A couple of video frame grabs...

What a storm that was! Direct hit at work, and at lunch time so a perfect time. Stood outside and filmed it come in until hail started bombarding me. Then retreated into the van. It was intense! Close lightning and hail up to about 15mm in rolleston, but bigger in west melton. Looked to be 20mm plus.
Next set up is Wednesday

true. but it did carry a bit of debris. i thought EF0 for a second too.

Apparently the tornado hit the roof of an autoshop with asbestos in it, and firefighters are wearing masks while picking up the debris.
