General December Weather
Looking like a warmer than average start to December for NZ with NW flow, some rain or showers mainly in the west, turning more humid in the north.
A cool start to the month for Victoria and Tasmania

Re: General December Weather
Looks like a thorough soaking for the west coast, after the recent one they’ve just had.
Pretty relentless NW for a while.

Re: General December Weather
2 cents worth.
The global climate nob is currently being turned in the equatorial pacific again. Nino 3.4 has dropped 0.5c in a week. EC showing a robust tropical easterly continuing for the next 10 days along with a very strong negative SAM from the SSW and projected western pacific super Typhoon KAMMURI which could have a butterfly effect on the monsoon and positive IOD. Could a wild weather pattern change for NZ coming up around Christmas and New Year IMO.

Re: General December Weather
And that idea fits with other modelling and weather intelligence. (and was with my clients a week ago!) December will be a month of two different halves (well two-thirds/one-third).

Re: General December Weather
then why is the weatherwatch site saying for wednesday. "showers heavy in the afternoon with possible thunderstorms" and they say rain on tuesday night. i dont really think any rain or storm will head into auckland next week either. metservice also has some showers in the forecast of next week. so 50-50 chance it may happen it may not.

In Auckland Friday 6th till Tuesday 10th. Friday looking nice in MetService's long-range outlook, but not so Sat-Sun - hope that changes.

MS toting severe gales for the east coast of the South Island on Tuesday, inland Monday through Weds. Looks a strong system.

Re: General December Weather
Interesting week ahead for parts of the South and North Islands. UK and CMC producing a 1 to 1.2 metre water bomb on the west coast of the SI on the latest runs. Upper NI will see some nice juicy converging winds as the week goes on which will combine with some colder uppers late Wednesday into Thursday.

Skies clearing here but still rather windy.
No more washing blowing over to nextdoor but I did fine a missing pair of underpants over there

Re: General December Weather
Winds really picking up again here in Rakaia. I hate to think what the garden will look like after the “strong winds” coming tomorrow evening and Tuesday. These winds today have already sent a branch of someone’s tree down the street. So far only one fire siren gone off.

Re: General December Weather
Interesting water vapour image at 10am showing a moisture rich atmospheric river ahead of a developing baroclinic leaf, followed by a powerful polar upper trough surging into SE OZ which is currently dumping summer snow on the mainland in NSW and Vic. A little bit of weather around the Tasman you could say.

Re: General December Weather
I see high risk for thunderstorms western south island tommorow and moderate risk for upper north island including auckland. i dont really think tommorows front will contain thunder. but we will have to wait and see. if there is a storm. it will most certainly be elevated . but either way. we should hopefully get some welcome rain. another possible chance is in the weekend. but its still too far out to confirm it

Re: General December Weather
that's the most northern push of showers/rain into NSW of the whole year maybe?
