It ended up that we had nearly continuous thunderstorms from about 4 pm till 8 pm when the front finally passed through. We had the works, lightning, torrential rain, hail. The lightning was pretty impressive with what I think was some cloud to cloud, rumbling of thunder that went on for over a minute. We now have blue skies and a cool south west wind.

I see the SW change on radar. Scooping up the bugs on its way up. Not far away from rolleston now. The trough at midnight is still one to watch around mid Canterbury. Maybe a storm could fire up round then.

That trough is looking active with a few cells going. Here's hoping it doesn't just head out east.

A dry change in Rangiora, getting dry again with that small amount of rain a week ago well and truly evaporated.

Was in Foxton area on 27th - sunny but too windy to be good at a beach. Bright and very little wind in the city 28th, lots of people at some beaches.

Have observed several aircraft contrails high aloft this morning: is it extra cold up there? Something brewing? 0_o

Very moist in the upper part of the atmosphere, so the aircraft are making contrails with that moisture.

Stunning in the sounds today, off to Molesworth Station tomorrow for a week volunteering for DOC so I'll have to take last night's GFS as gospel for the week's weather! Expecting windy and hot then windy and cold.

Breezy cool southwest here for the last few days but sunny. Little Oneroa beach, Waiheke is a great spot on a southwest flow.

Back here in Belmont.
Noticed the breezy northerlies were a bit cooler here, than the westerlies up at Shannon, where we were after Christmas .
Pohutakawa trees, here, not flowering yet but up along the Kapiti coast and Shannon/Levin/Foxton area, out in full bloom for the Christmas period.

Full bloom around the city. Nice scene around Scorching Bay yesterday with pohutukawas as a backdrop.

Yes similar here but has been drizzling for the last hour. To wet now to do anything outside, hopefully it burns off this afternoon.

See alot of variation from tree to tree, mostly finished up here but the odd tree is still in full bloom, right next to others that are all done.

Odd, had enough rain to wet the concrete this morning, 1mm maybe, but absolutely nothing showed on radar, not even yellow.
