Various West Coast sites over the 120mm mark for the last 24 hours, Cropp 384mm and 580mm MTD to 0530.
580 month to data..and its only the 3rd.. Gulp. 1000 plus by weeks end by the looks
A lot of rain on the West Coast, but not as concentrated in time as for the March event, which may help. Cropp 860mm MTD to 0900.

The Waimak was not as high as March this morning but it was extremely turbulent. The Waiau River was as high as I've seen it.

Talking with a woman in Queenstown who was saying they have the water front sand bagged with the lake getting quite high, and there's still another few days of rain at the headwaters to go yet

Always interesting to see how the models project on these extreme rainfall events. From Dec 1st, Cropp river @ waterfall rainfall total is now 1091mm up until 5:06am today. EC & GFS are likely to miss the target by double.

For the Cropp river area around 800 to 1000 ASL - Model run 1st December 00Z for 144 hours (up Saturday 1pm 7th December)

UK 1200 to 1300mm
CMC 1200 to 1300mm
ICON 1000 to 1100mm
EC 700 to 800mm
BoM 600 to 700mm
GFS 550 to 650mm

I dont think that is connected to the rising lake levels though.

Significant new rain warnings issued by MS for the coming days. Really concerning for the coast and southern lakes- I'd be nervous down Wanaka and Queenstown way

Heavy Rain Warning

Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.

Area: Westland south of Otira
Valid: 47 hours from 9:00am Thursday to 8:00am Saturday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Expect 250 to 300mm to accumulate about the ranges and 80 to 120mm nearer to the coast. Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm per hour about the ranges from early Friday morning with thunderstorms possible. Please note, further periods of heavy rain are expected on Saturday and Sunday, and a watch or a warning will likely be issued closer to each event.
Changes: Watch upgraded to a Warning.

Area: The headwaters of Canterbury lakes and rivers about and south of Rakaia River
Valid: 31 hours from 2:00am Friday to 9:00am Saturday
Forecast: Period of heavy rain. Expect 200 to 250mm of rain to accumulate near the divide, and 80 to 120mm within 15km east of the divide. Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm per hour at times near the divide.

Area: The headwaters of Otago lakes and rivers
Valid: 47 hours from 9:00am Thursday to 8:00am Saturday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Expect 150 to 200mm of rain to accumulate near the divide, and 50 to 90mm within 15km east of the divide. Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm per hour near the divide during Friday morning and thunderstorms possible. Please note, further periods of heavy rain are expected on Saturday and Sunday, and a watch or warning will likely be issued closer to each event. (Freezing level around 1800 metres, rising to about 2200 metres this evening)
Changes: Watch upgraded to a Warning.

Area: Fiordland from Doubtful Sound northwards
Valid: 15 hours from 9:00am Thursday to 12:00am Friday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Expect 180 to 220mm of rain to accumulate. Peak intensities of 10 to 15mm per hour at times. Note, further periods of heavy rain are expected until late Sunday morning, and a watch or a warning will likely be issued closer to each event.
Changes: Watch upgraded to a Warning.

None of the insurance companies cover any of the shops in the downtown Queenstown area for flooding from Lake Wakatipu, in 1999 there was around four foot of water through the lower part of town from the lake flooding.

From the QLDC

The decision has been made to close a section of Ardmore Street in Wānaka between McDougall Street and Lakeside Road, as vehicles driving through flood water here can cause wave action and damage properties as a result.

A 30km speed limit is being expanded to cover the whole Wānaka CBD.

Waimak was lower and calmer this morning, but still carrying a moderately high flow. That should probably accelerate again through tomorrow.
