Possible upper North Island thunderstorms - Dec 3

lots of lightning out at sea at the moment. according to blitzortung. possibly heading this way. moderate risk for upper north island tommorow afternoon. so lets wait and see.

I hope they don't arrive.
Auckland gets too many thunderstorms as compared to other main cities. <3

lol thats true. but you guys had your turn recently with the supercells,hail and tornadoes. so now its our turn. there is a whole lot of lightning out at the tasmin. I am thinking some of that will make it :) :lol:

Models continue to show ample moisture feeding down the atmospheric river before the front tomorrow afternoon. Lots of warm moist air, a prefrontal trough and a sharp edged cold front always makes the day interesting :smile:

i see metservice reduced the risk to low. dam it. and not much lightning at tasmin now either. when will we aucklanders get a storm? it was dumb of me to make this thread. :mad: #-o

Some afternoon downpours is the best chance. I haven't had much luck this year, so hoping for a freak 20mm this afternoon on the convergence :smile:

yes im hoping a good rain will do. wouldnt be surprised if theres a single strike of lightning somewhere.

its all going to slide down the coast by the looks
I did say that its hard for auckland to get decent rain out a tasman front at this time of year (but it can still happen)

very windy here and some just usefull rain (107kmh peak gust and 3mm)
big temperature drop, from 23c to 16c now
looks like we will get another 3 to 5mm from the next rain band

looks like taranaki is in for some thunder. lightning heading towards that direction according to blitz.



light rain here at the moment but was heavy before. windy here too

a usefull (any rain is usefull from now on ) 5mm here..sunshine now..but the wind and sun will quickly dry that out :(

yes. some rain here was heavy for a few minutes. 6mm here. i shouldnt of made the thread. stupid of me. there was a lot of lightning strikes. which made me think would come into auckland but nope. but still a bit of rain. lessons learned for next time. :(

It was nice to see a good clearance this afternoon to blue skies. The set up next Sunday/Monday looking promising at this stage.

yes it sure does look promising. i didnt at first see this as a thunder set up.then i looked at blitz had a lot of lightning which made me thought some of it would make it but nope. it didnt. doh #-o. lots of lightning strikes around the western and southern south island today.

Estimate there were some gusts to 80 or 90 km/hr with the front - which is high for inland Waikato. I had a bit of cleaning up to do around the garden and have heard from others a similar story.
