Shortland Street: Cyclone Damien

Unread post by tich »

Not sure if the script writers sought meteorological advice from experts for the plot, but being a soap opera they certainly dramatise the level of destruction. Not sure how likely an ex-tropical cyclone is devastate Auckland this early in the season, after wreaking havoc in Samoa. Plus there's frequent thunder and lightning.

Never watched the programme, as the acting is so terrible and story lines so unreal, so that's probably why they created this scenario as Climate change is so much of a topic these days to add to their programme, so a storm hits Auckland and ruins the A and E department, or whatever of the hospital in Shortland Street, where ever that is?

you could argue an ex TC is unlikely to ever cause significant damage in Auckland any time of the season?
(I don't watch shortland street)

my friend watches it. she told me about the episode where a volcanic erupted in the central city. i was like "what" that will never happen in real life though. our volcanic field is mostly extanct with rangitoto being dormant.

Is this a cyclone watch? Or has it been upgraded to a warning to avoid?

I know it's off topic but that is simply not correct - the field is still very much active, and the next eruption could occur anywhere in the field including the CBD.
