Thunderstorms around the North Island - Dec 16-17

I am not sure if auckland will get a storm today.. but hopefully we do. there will definatly be some storms around the north island thats for sure.
heres this mornings thunderstorm outlook.

Unstable and humid northerlies affect central and northern New Zealand today, with a general low risk of thunderstorms over the North Island and upper South Island as depicted on the chart. The most unstable area, with afternoon and evening wind convergence, extends from western parts of Northland to Taranaki and northern Manawatu, and across to Taupo and inland Hawkes Bay. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms in this area, which may produce localised heavy rain and hail, as well as a low risk of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS producing localised downpours of 25 to 40mm/hr.
Elsewhere, no thunderstorms or significant convection is expected.

Shame there is no sunshine, that would crank up the instability. DP at the airport is 19C so very moist.

i Am starting to see blue sky here in takinini so hopefully we might get something otherise we might have to wait for tommorow.

The sun has come out here for a few minutes and has me given 25c with a 20c DP. Hoping for a rogue downpour to settle the dust....

There have been a couple of decent rumbles over Stanmore Bay with steady rain now. Hoping its all over by the time my flight leaves this evening!

I see theres a storm in northern auckland now. hope it makes it south. or i hope another storm forms my way

Yes, I thought I heard a faint rumble before, sounds like I did then. Blitz showing an isolated strike to my north. Radar closing in on the east coast bay beaches on the North Shore.

Wellsford had a cell that had big updrafts.scud cloud to ground level. .tornado weather.

Strong updrafts and low hanging scud on these storms around here. Some places are getting huge downpours. Nothing to write home about here yet but I suspect we will have our turn this afternoon. Thunder in all directions at the moment.

One just sparked up north of us here in Swanson, thunder with some dark bases
Edit - now north, west, and south of us. Blew up quite quickly looking at the last couple of frames on the wx radar

its mainly in west auckland. god dam it. wont make it here to south auckland proberly

We should get heaps of thunderstorms on Friday, here.
Got my fingers, toes and arse crossed for a good storm before we head north for Christmas.

yeah I havnt heard a single rumble this month. Hopefully we in auckland can get a good storm tommorow.

um metservice has taken tommorow afternoon thunderstorm chart off for some reason. they have tommorows morning up but nothing about the afternoon. strange.

Yes. I noticed that too. Now the morning's one gone as well.
Maybe they are up dating their thunderstorm page?
A nice fancy one will do with lighting bolts showing where the most likely thunderstorms will occur?
