Individual models are starting to get spooked for next week......Icon ends up bombing a 964 hPa mid latitude cyclone off Dunedin on the 00Z run. Considering this German model has spanked EC & GFS on SI systems for December so far, this scenario probably can't be ruled out just yet  but for now it's still just entertainment value with 150 hours to go. The upper low next week will be calling the shots, lots of upgrades and downgrades across NZ in the next few days I'm tipping.

EC going for 15cm of snow for Springfield next Saturday with a bomb east coast low and a good feed of polar air, somehow I think snow to 400m might be a tad over the top though lol

GFS showing 50mm for Auckland from the system early week. I am thinking 20mm more realistic.

It's still way early, but I am getting a lil nervous about Tuesday next week. I'm going to bring a mobile in from Matakana Island and won't be able to get back easily should rainfall rates get high enough to flood us. Will be watching this with concern as it develops.

Canterbury will feel the temperature drop on Tuesday, could be only 12C in the afternoon and a wet day.

And we could end up with a big squall line in Auckland, not storms, just some big gusts to bring a few trees down.

New topic as the country looks to be getting a drenching, and some gales to kick in later in the east

Keep an eye on the Rangitata today folks. Already been 60mm up in the headwaters and the flood protection works are very fragile.

Having a break between periods of rain, had a nice wee drop of 7mm so far with another band coming down later this afternoon. Then tomorrow looks a bit promising for more than just extra rain in the later afternoon, maybe, its now that time Amuri plains start to supply good land heating. Friday has been consistently looking promising also, by that's not for this thread.

Looks like the low is starting to do its thing, looks more vigorous through mid Canterbury at present. Metservice have upped the moisture prediction for the evening a nudge

Moderate risk of thunder up the Canterbury coast from Amberley today, but I'm not seeing quite why or any sign of anything happening from radar/IR satellite. Haven't done the window test though.

Friday looks interesting.

Just come back from Ashburton.
Fresh snow along the foothills.
Lots of Cu around with Cu humulus producing the odd rain shower but gradually clearing away later this afternoon.
SW winds gradually dying out.
