MetService Website 2020
I see the old one is still accessible, which is quite good as I still use it.
I have noticed the TVNZ One's weather has been updated as well.
After the initial maps, temperature highs etc, you have to wait "A half an hour" before the weather gets down to the South Island and they put Timaru with the West Coast which it should be with Ashburton/Oamaru/Christchurch etc. A bit disjointed, I reckon, but then, who am I to argue.

Re: MetService Website 2020
I've noticed they have been forecasting fine weather for Canterbury but really it has been rather dull and cloudy with hardly any sun far this year

Re: MetService Website 2020
One of the reasons why Culverden should not be in the High Country forecast, snow with a high of 24deg

Re: MetService Website 2020
How does that even happen? I take it that it is two different computer model outputs where they have both not been reviewed be a meteorologist

Re: MetService Website 2020
strange inconsistency in temperature descriptions.
Forecast for Blenheim on Friday: fine and hot. Gusty northwesterlies. Max 32
Forecast for Blenheim on Sunday: Fine and warm, northwesterlies gusty at times. Max 34
So why is 32 hot but 34 only warm for the same location with the same type of weather??

Re: MetService Website 2020
They aren't only inconsistent with their wording, their use of the icons is inconsistent too. And the new website doesn't update the current temperatures anywhere near as often as the old site.midgrove wrote: ↑Thu 30/01/2020 14:53 strange inconsistency in temperature descriptions.

Hot with a maximum of 33C on Sunday but only warm with 32 on Monday.
also Ash and Chch with hotter or warmer temperatures, than Timaru.
Also I noticed that they had to update yesterday's SWF dues to typo errors, but there still was atyp that they missed.

Re: MetService Website 2020
As per the thread on the Fiordland/. West Coast flooding, we now have our first notified RED Warning
Issued at 11:55am Monday 3 Feb 2020
Significant heavy rain for the west and south of the South Island, and west to northwest gales for parts of southern and central New Zealand
A series of fronts are forecast to move slowly east across the South Island during Monday and Tuesday, bringing periods of heavy rain to the west and south of the South Island, including the Southern Alps, and strong west to northwest winds to parts of the South Island and the lower North Island.
A Heavy Rain Warning is in force for Fiordland, Westland, the headwaters of the Otago and Canterbury Lakes and Rivers, Southland, Clutha, Central Otago, the Southern Lakes.
Note: The warning in Westland and Fiordland south of Hokitka and north of George Sound had been upgraded to a RED WARNING. Significant impacts are already occuring and this event has high potential for further significant impacts, such as major slips, road closures and flooding, in the next 24 to 36 hours. This decision was made in consultation between Metservice Meteorologists and West Coast Regional Council Hydrologists and Civil Defence Officers.
Watches for heavy rain have now been issued for Dunedin and Buller.
A Strong Wind Watch remains in force for eastern parts of Otago and Canterbury, while Watches for possible severe gales have been issued for Marlborough, Wellington and Wairarapa
Note, for parts of the South Island, especially in the west of the island, this is likely to be a significant event with the potential for slips to disrupt transport, while near the east coast of the island rivers are likely to rise in response to the heavy rain falling in the headwaters.
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made.
Heavy Rain Warning
This rain is expected to cause dangerous river conditions and significant flooding. Slips and floodwaters are likely to disrupt travel, making some roads impassable and possibly isolating communities.
Area: Westland south of Hokitika and Fiordland north of George Sound
Valid: 31 hours from 9:00am Monday to 4:00pm Tuesday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Expect a further 300 to 450mm of rain to accumulate about the ranges on top of what has already fallen, and 90 to 150mm near the coast. Peak rates of 15 to 25mm/h in general, but 25 to 40mm/h possible - mostly with thunderstorms. Note, the heaviest rain in Fiordland is expected to ease overnight Monday and Tuesday morning.
Changes: Upgraded to RED WARNING

Yep...a site visit is required to carry out repairs. That is scheduled for tomorrow (logistics take slightly longer at the moment in Level 4).

I also expect construction the new Otago Radar at Hindon will be on hold because of Covid-19.Matt Pearce wrote: ↑Fri 24/04/2020 16:37 Yep...a site visit is required to carry out repairs. That is scheduled for tomorrow (logistics take slightly longer at the moment in Level 4).

Re: MetService Website 2020
Yes that is correct. The construction works were not able to continue in Level 4 and Level 3. By the time it is expected that we drop down into Level 2, we will run into more adverse winter weather conditions, so construction works will recommence later in the year.
It is expected to be online early in 2021.

That's a blow, but totally understandable and it's great that it is coming at any stage.
