Noticed at Thornbury Southland that lowest ground temp so far this year is -1.4C with no air frost yet Normally would have had light air frost by now

Re: Frosts reports 2020
Temp records for Chch Aero only go back to Sep 1953, and yes, -0.2C in 1990 was its previous March record. The City Council's Chch Gardens site in Hagley Park has records going back to 1905, but it's generally a little warmer than the airport and has never recorded an air-frost in March before (don't have last month's figures yet though).Simon Culling wrote: ↑Tue 21/04/2020 22:10 Thanks for the frost news and updates, gentlemen. Much appreciated.
Interesting to see in these 'warm' times that a record low minimum can be set. How long is the record at Christchurch Airport? The Wikipedia pages says 1943 (so, 77 years) and that the previous record low for March was -0.2°C, so the record was well beaten.

Quite cold this morning but no evidence of a ground frost. Down to zero.

I see Ashburton Aero just recorded its first air-frost for the year (plenty of ground-frosts though).
Timaru Aero recorded its first air-frosts on April 14 & 15.

Down to zero overnight but thin high cloud cover moving in from the west in the morning didn't see any evidence of frost.

Re: Frosts reports 2020
...sorry to be off topic(Cant transfer this to the Corona-virus, Coved 19 topic) but it could have something to do with respiratory problems that people have with pollution in large cities like Wuhan, Milan, Madrid. New York, etc.,especially during the winter time, resulting in breathlessness, like what one of the symptoms that this virus has?

Not in this household, Tony.
I usually get up around dawn to bring in the newspaper, but today there was no newspaper because it is a Sunday. That's my excuse

Frosty overnight but it cleared away by dawn as high cloud cover moved across and was 5C at 7:30am, when I went and got the paper.
Down to 0.2C.
