Not a bad one here either on -4.1deg. 20+ years ago we would have much colder than Christchurch Airport.

Only down to -1C in the Botanic Gardens. Could the airport calibration be off?

Only down to -1C in the Botanic Gardens. Could the airport calibration be off?
I would say not, many of the private weather stations in around CHCH were around -4 also, central city temps are effected by urban heat sink

I understood the NIWA one in Riccarton was susceptible to urban heat, but had thought (until now anyway) that the Botanic Gardens location was to negate that.

Lighter frost than expected here overnight after yesterday's snow, only down to minus 0.6C.
However, should be a good one tonight.

-5.8C in West Melton. I see Christchurch Airport just broke it’s all time coldest September minimum as well!!
