A nice 22mm here this morning. That front bought a small but slow moving period.of rain here today. Not "showers" as forecast. Some heavy bursts as well. Sun is coming out now

I saw that too. Interesting cirrussy sky but I didn't have my camera with me.
Good bit of rain here overnight and this morning with 16.5mm falling.
Grey gloomy day here, no good for anybody who is not feeling 100% today. :-S

Looking ahead, it seems that there's a lot of variability in the SAM forecast after about the next week - which you could expect - but potentially one or two more ensemble members continue to go negative. I'm sure Tony and Cyclone Tracy can fill in more when appropriate:

https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/ ... .aao.shtml
https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/ ... /aao.shtml

Much can change then, not least as the polar vortex continues to take shape at the moment looking diamond-like (albeit strong our side) and with the flow-on effects of last year's massive warming continuing as it contorts itself into various shapes (https://www.metcheck.com/SEASONAL/strat ... ecasts.asp#).

From our talk the other day, I hope you got a decent drop there but not too much, as too much rain in one dollop can be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. 0_o

It soaked it well really, and now I see MS have about 30mm more Sunday, all of a sudden the dry season has come to an end.

Will be interesting to see how far south into North Canterbury the heavier rain reaches before it fizzles out. Latest ECMWF is progging 80mm for Kaikoura, down to 14mm for Christchurch.

Cold overcast day with light southerly becoming light and variant.
Gloomy day especially with this virus outbreak. Need more Vitamin D and sunshine to make the day more happier for most people.
Bring on the anticyclones, I say. :-$
16.5mm of rain overnight, much more than was recorded at Timaru airport.
Today's daytime maximum was only 13.7C.

At the moment here: 10°, overcast, no wind; and a Grey Warbler chirruping, haven't heard one for a while.

Had fantails, quail and goldfinches in the garden this week. Not sure how often they come usually being out, but great to see.

Dry still, just cool and light overcast.

I see Culverden had 43.8 mm yesterday. Here, what I see from the CWS in the paddock is about an hour behind real time I thought it would have been getting up around 30mm, but no, ended up with 24.2mm in total. A damn good rain.

Here is a patch back in Feb 8th verses today. I thought it was completely dead, but it's trying to come back now .ImageImage

Interesting to see a low moving "westwards"? into the BOP today till tues. Pitty its not mid summer as there would be some decent storms around. Nice pattern for a change just to break up the lockdown monotany for a bit, had rain recently but still dust from 5cm down grass taking off though. The sound of grass growing louder than the traffic !!! .Interesting times alright. Take care out there.
