The sound of heavy rain is amazing, seems a life time ago since hearing that.

Re: General March Weather
Upper trough hanging over New Zealand for a few days now with some patchy heavy rain in parts of central NZ with heavy falls progged. isolated thunderstorms difinitely on the menu as well.
Upper North Island will be largely fine to finish the month but Isolated thunderstorms on the cards about Monday.

Re: General March Weather
Nice! Got a whopping 0.4mm here locally in Southern Christchurch, I see the Airport managed to get 3.6mm taking the official Christchurch rainfall YTD to 34mm. Radar suggests bugger all more here. Chance of some rain wrapping in on Monday however, although it may hit a bit further north than here. Fingers crossed!

Re: General March Weather
I see CHCH is being sheltered by Banks Peninsula. Had 10mm so far which is coming in steady with the odd heavy bust.

Closing in on 20mm in the last three hours, just hope this keeps up for most of the day.

Now getting up near 30mm, at times very heavy rain. At one stage it was falling at the rate of 25.2mm p/h

Re: General March Weather
Thank you, in this game I take any success which comes my way! Rain stopped here now but wind has picked up to be quite strong and gusty (not another dust devil!)

Hosing down here. Some heavy bursts too.
Has the front stalled? 14mm here now. Radar doesn't show much

Re: General March Weather
Heavy rain here just eased to light rain. Wasn't expecting that. Just a few showers. That was not a shower. That was a period of rain.

Re: General March Weather
Well, if there's a plus side to this drought, the lawn here hasn't needed mowing for a couple months now at least... not as dead as it was in February but still not looking too good

Re: General March Weather
Rain here in South Auckland is getting heavy again. 18mm so far. I'm so lucky.
Rain is light again. But still raining. Hasn't stopped since it started.

Re: General March Weather
Belated post: on Wednesday March 25 I observed conspicuous mares' tails aloft, a very interesting sky that day.

Re: General March Weather
Diddly squat rain-wise here today. The wind has certainly picked up through the morning.
Sunday night through Monday looks more likely for heavy rain in Canterbury as the cut-off upper trough retreats southwards.
